Thanksgiving is a time for celebration with family, friends, and loved ones. A broken HVAC system can put a damper on the holiday spirit. With a potential cold front on the way you’ll want to be sure your HVAC system is maintaining a warm and comfortable space for your home and guests. Here are some helpful tips to ensure your HVAC system is working efficiently during the holiday season:

  1. Change your Air Filters: Clogged air filters can reduce air quality and your HVAC systems efficiency. Make sure to change your air filters when getting your home ready for guests to arrive. Improved air quality can help with anyone who has respiratory disease or other health concerns.

  1. Don’t Overwork your HVAC system: If you are concerned about cold temperatures this holiday season make sure not to overwork your HVAC system. Your unit could break down during the holiday. With businesses being closed it may be more difficult to get repairs done sooner.

  1. Check your Vents and Airflow: Make sure all your vents and registers are unblocked of any decorations or obstructions. This allows for smooth airflow throughout your home allowing it to heat evenly.

  1. Keep Your Indoor and Outdoor Unit Clear: Make sure all obstructions are removed from around your indoor or outdoor HVAC system. This could include leaves, yard tools, debris, etc. By doing so your HVAC system can work as efficiently as possible during the holiday and prevent any mechanical malfunctions.

  1. Inspect your System for Warning Signs: If you find there are any signs of a potential malfunction such as abnormal noises, inconsistent temperatures, or high energy bills contact your HVAC technician. Your registered HVAC technician can give you any recommendations on how to prevent your HVAC system from malfunctioning during the holidays and prepare for potential repairs in the future.

These simple steps can help keep your system working smoothly. If you have any questions to prep your HVAC system contact your registered technician. If you have any emergencies on Thanksgiving day and are located in the East Texas area Air-Mart technicians can be available if needed.
