Carbon Monoxide (CO) commonly known as the ‘silent killer’ is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that comes from burning gas, oil, wood, or coal. Recently 12 people were found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning at a Georgian ski resort. We understand the dangers carbon monoxide poses to heat users, and want to bring awareness on the importance of having carbon monoxide detectors installed and working.
Signs of Poisoning
Early Signs of CO Poisoning:
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Fatigue
Later & More Severe Signs:
Confusion
Chest Pain
Loss of Consciousness
Death in Extreme Cases
Carbon Monoxide Detection
Carbon Monoxide detectors are simple to use and easy to install. They typically are paired with smoke alarms for added convenience. Some benefits include:
Early detection to alert of a CO leak.
Battery backup detection in the event of power outages.
Smart carbon monoxide detectors can alert you of a leak to your phone in real time.
Portable detectors when traveling.
In the event of Carbon Monoxide Leak
It is critical to avoid exposure to any CO if there is a leak. Especially for those with preexisting health conditions, children, and elderly, who are more at risk of CO poisoning. If there is a CO leak then take these next steps:
Evacuate immediately and reach out to emergency services letting them know there is a potential CO leak.
If needed, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
If emergency services deems it safe to enter space to open ventilation, do so in order to air out CO within the space.
Do not enter the space until emergency services say it is completely safe.
There can be very severe risks to CO poisoning, but it’s important to remember that it is very preventable. Ensuring that you have working CO alarms in your home can allow for fast detection, with battery backups in times of emergencies. Do not wait to have CO alarms installed. They are very inexpensive and will keep you safe. If you are in need of CO alarm installations reach out to us at Air-Mart AC & Heating.
