As the season starts to shift and the weather slowly begins to warm from winter to spring this is an important time to prep your HVAC system. Some days you may still be using heat and others you may need to turn on your air conditioning. In this article, we will add some tips and considerations to ensure your HVAC unit is working up to standards.
1. Changing/Cleaning Filters: As we all know HVAC filters should be changed/cleaned regularly. This is especially important with the change of season. If your HVAC air conditioning system has been sitting for a while without regular care there could be some built-up debris in filters and vents that needs to be removed. Doing so will ensure that there is proper airflow coming from your HVAC system. It also improves air quality, reduces overusing your air conditioning and increases your cooling bills.
2. Keeping HVAC Unit Clean: If there is any debris/clutter left over from fall and winter around your HVAC unit make sure to keep it clean and clear. Keeping it cluttered can prevent your HVAC system from functioning efficiently and even cause damage to the unit itself. A blocked or obstructed HVAC unit could cause damage to fans, the condenser, electrical wiring, and prevent airflow.
3. Check Your Thermostat: Ensure that your thermostat is working correctly. That your system is able to turn to colder temperatures. Make sure that cool air is flowing through all rooms, and that your house is able to cold down.
4. Have Your Ventilation System Professionally Cleaned: If it’s been a while since your ventilation system has been cleaned, around three years or more, now is the time to have it cleaned and inspected. Cleaning your ductwork can allow for quality airflow throughout your home. This can help cool your home faster and provide cleaner air to breathe. This is especially helpful for anyone with preexisting health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, or respiratory disease.
5. Have Your HVAC System Serviced: It is recommended that you have your HVAC system serviced at least once every spring. Your registered HVAC technician can make sure everything is running properly, and check for any needed maintenance. This can ensure that your system is working in top shape for the warming weather. If you suspect that you need a new HVAC system this is also a time you can discuss this with your HVAC rep, and they can give you the best recommendations based on your personal budget.
6. Check Your Circuit Breaker: Once the stormy season hits you’ll want to make sure that your HVAC system will fully turn back on after a potential power outage. Don’t wait to have this looked at. Not having a working A/C unit can be potentially dangerous in extreme heat temperatures. You do not want to be without your HVAC system in this kind of weather.
7. Check Your Condenser: One of the problems that may arise post-winter weather is a rusted or dirty condenser. Remove the cover if you have one and make sure to turn off power to the unit before inspecting. If it is dirty, have it cleaned and rust removed.
8. Do any Necessary Maintenance: This is the best time to take care of any needed maintenance before it gets too warm. Your registered HVAC technician can fix or replace any needed parts and make sure your HVAC system is working properly. Maintaining your unit can keep your unit running smoothly and more efficiently. Don’t wait too long to get maintenance done on your unit. Avoiding doing so can cause more problems down the road, which can cost you more.
9. HVAC Installations: Now is the best time to have a new HVAC cooling system installed. If you were having any concerns the previous year from your HVAC system not cooling properly, breaking down too much, overly expensive HVAC bills, or maybe it’s just that time for a replacement. Then, talk to your HVAC representatives, if you are local to east Texas call us at Air-Mart AC & Heating to see what works best for you. Remember that if you are concerned about paying for a new unit Air-Mart or your local bank has financing options available. A new unit can save you money down the road so don’t just opt out of considering a new installation.
10. Check Your Warranty: If there is anything that we’ve missed your best option to prepare for spring weather is to check your HVAC systems warranty. There should be checklist recommendations to ensure you are staying within warranty standards for taking care of your unit. Failing to do so can void your warranty and limit your options in the event of problems occurring with your unit down the road.
Being prepared for the seasonal change can ensure that your HVAC system is running efficiently, saving you money and maintaining peace of mind. If you have any questions or need your HVAC system looked at contact us at Air-Mart A/C & Heating (903) 569-1203 to learn more.
